Compare

GS1 Digital Link providers, compared honestly.

Three kinds of GS1 Digital Link tool: generate-and-walk-away, resolver-only, and full stack. Here's who does what, what it costs, and where xengoroute fits.

The three company types

How much of the stack do they actually run?

Type A

Generate-and-walk-away

Free static generators (TEC-IT, Aspose, Canva…). You get an image, the relationship ends. No resolver, no re-pointing, no analytics — fine as a one-shot mark, useless for the point of a Digital Link.

Type B

Resolver or redirect only

QR platforms with a "GS1 mode" (Bitly, QR Tiger, Flowcode…) and resolver pure-plays (digital-link.com, Unitag…). Re-pointable, but thin on own-domain, events, or both — or metered where it hurts.

Type C

Full stack

Generation + resolver + analytics + signed events as one service. The enterprise clouds (Digimarc, Kezzler, atma.io) do it at six-to-seven-figure quote-only ARR. xengoroute does it self-serve, price published.

The cost of "own domain + re-pointable + events"

The cheapest tier at each provider that unlocks a re-pointable GS1 Digital Link on your own domain with an API and scan-time events — which is the combination a brand actually needs. Prices checked July 2026.

Provider Type Entry Own-domain DL Signed scan events The catch
xengoroute C · full stack £39 ✔ from entry ✔ signed, retry + DLQ Not the cheapest — see below
GS1 UK Premium QR B £7 + membership ✖ GS1 domain only No own domain, no API, no events
Hovercode B ~£10 No events layer at any tier
digital-link.com B $15 (API $80) ✖ no webhooks Conformance claimed, never evidenced
Bitly 2D B $10 (domain $35) unverified as DL base Enterprise only Destination edits capped 5–110/mo
Delivr B $25 PRO $995 only $125+ add-on $0.001 per view over quota
Uniqode B $5 $99 + ~$2k/yr add-on CRUD events only Domain priced like an enterprise line
Digimarc / Kezzler / atma.io C · enterprise quote (6–7 figures) varies No self-serve, no published price

The honest line: we are not the price floor — GS1 UK at £7 and Hovercode at ~£10 are cheaper, and we say so. xengoroute is the only seat at any price combining own-domain Digital Link, signed scan-time events, UK residency and no punitive metering. And one more thing nobody else does: when our Resolver tier ships, we publish our conformance test results — every other "conformant" claim in this market is self-asserted.

Questions, answered straight

How much does a GS1 Digital Link resolver cost?

Published self-serve prices for a re-pointable Digital Link run roughly £7–£48/month depending on what's included; a conformant, programmable resolver is £299/month on xengoroute (£249 at launch) — a number most of the category only reveals after a sales call, and Delivr prints as $995.

Is xengoroute the cheapest way to get a GS1 QR code?

No. GS1 UK's Premium QR is £7/month plus membership, and Hovercode is around £10. If a code on someone else's domain with basic analytics is all you need, they're good value. xengoroute is for brands that want the code on their own domain with scan-time events behind it — no self-serve rival offers that combination at any price.

What's wrong with a free GS1 QR generator?

Free generators produce a static code: no resolver behind it, so the destination can never change after printing, and nobody can tell you it was scanned. A Digital Link you can't re-point is a Digital Link you'll have to reprint.
